Thabarwa Centre - Part 2

About Thabarwa Centre
(Part - 2)

The Natural Vihara Of Natural Law At Thabarwa
Thabarwa is a sanctuary where it is encompassed with morally wholesome merit making.

It is where many sermons on truth (sacca)  are continuously delivered.

Thabarwa is where the infirm, the invalid, the old, the sufferers, the yogis continuously seek inner peace of mind through insight meditation (Vipassana).

It is where all types of medicines (western and indigenous) and Dhamma sermons, medical science and technology, medical practitioners,  all types of scholars and intellectuals, continually practice virtues of merit and morality.

It is where solutions and answers are contemplated and discovered on many unsolvable complex mundane matters, even extended into the most intricate, sensitive and delicate ones by means of charity (dana), morality (sila), and contemplation (bhavana).

What You Must Observe At Thabarwa

You must know the truth. You must amend the wrong.

You must be free from grasping, craving, attachment.

You must dare to renounce craving.

You must not grasp at anything due to what is happening.

You must not waver by saying that we are worldly beings. In the ups and downs of life we will meet the good, the bad and the ugly. You should not find such excuse to grasp at craving.

You must endeavour to strive for complete fulfillment for the benefit of mankind.

Located in Thanlyin Pagoda Hill (Syriam), Myanmar, Thabarwa Centre is established with unlimited access for general benefit and is fulfilling the most crucial needs continually, persistently, dedicatedly, one by one.

Thabarwa Centre opens 24 hours a day, seven days a week without recess.  It is the sanctuary which is fulfilling the requirements of the multitude and the world (loka) round-the-clock without attachment and craving such as: oh it is the world, oh it is the worldly people, oh it is for self benefit, oh it is for general benefit, oh it is for the lokadhamma good and bad.

You need not pay for food and lodging. There is no restriction whatsoever on age, health condition, nationality, race, religion, social class etc.

In as much as there is no binding restrictions in the Sanctuary, it will be necessary on your part, to renounce all self imposed restriction with free will. Only then you may walk on the path of Pure Perfection (parami).

Thabarwa Centre is the sanctuary for persons from all regions of Myanmar who seek refuge for care and attention and desire to practice meditation.

It is the sanctuary for aged persons, the sick, the infirm, the blind, the deaf, the disabled, psychiatric and mental cases, the homeless and helpless.

It is the sanctuary without discrimination as to number, system, accommodation, time, race, religion, age etc.

It is the sanctuary which trains the yogis to enhance the power for renunciation, the power for sacrifice, the power for true understanding, and the power for performing merits (kusala).

It is the sanctuary which researches, writes, delivers and distributes    teachings, lectures and sermons continually to enhance understanding and intuitive capability.

It is the sanctuary where charity is continually contemplated, benefits accrued from charity (kusala)  are fulfilled, applied, tested and proven.

It is the sanctuary where charity is permitted to be fulfilled without restraint and with total freedom.

New Six-Story Dhamma Building

New Six-Story Dhamma Building
At Thabarwa Centre in Thanlyin

Thabarwa Centre, headed by Venerable Sayadaw U Ottamasara, is established principally for Vipassana Insight Meditation, following the example taught by Lord Buddha for the propagation and perpetuation of Buddha Sasana.

The core inspiration of Thabarwa is selflessness, compassion and universal love.

Since its establishment, without limiting the number of residents, Thabarwa takes on everyone, regardless of age, race, social status, health condition, physical and mental state and provides a peaceful sanctuary for the pensioners, the old, the needy, the disables, the infirms as well as chronically and terminally ill persons.

Regardless of their physical and mental conditions, Thabarwa provides them with basic necessities of life such as food, clothing, shelter and medical care which includes hospitalization, for free so that they can fully concentrate on the pursuit and realization of Dhamma.  Even on the event of death the Centre performs their last funeral rites and gives them a decent burial.
Though Thabarwa functions for common welfare, that is not the main objective. The main objective is to enable the yogis to practice Vipassana Insight Meditation with single-minded concentration and to propagate the Patipatti Sasana, practical application to realize peace of mind and end of suffering.

Due to the increasing number of patients and infirm people, a new six-storey dhamma building for the sick and the infirm is proposed and the construction of the building has been commenced to enable us to cater to those who are in need.

Our hospitality towards those who come to us for help and seek refuge under the guidance of Ven. Sayadaw U Ottamasara will hopefully be well placed in this new six-story infirmary.

Indeed, Thabarwa, headed by Ven. Sayadaw U Ottamasara, is a non-profit humanitarian organization working for a noble cause.

It is the place where voluntary donors can donate cash and materials to gain merit.  The Centre channels the money and materials received to provide a peaceful venue for people to practice Dhamma without worry.

There are many volunteers who donate their labour for a worthy cause, to look after the welfare of the residents taking refuge in the Centre.

The Yogis (meditators), seeking true Dhamma, also become friends with fellow yogis in a spirit of give and take.  Thus they do not feel helpless over their miseries of stress, pressure, sickness, rejection and loneliness.

About Thabarwa Center

Thabarwa Center
Thanlyin, Yangon, Myanmar

1. Thabarwa Centre is a peaceful place with beautiful nature, healthy food and peaceful dhamma.

2. This sasana place is located between Kyite Khauk Pagoda & Tar Wa University on the high-way between ThanLyin and ToneGwa (1km outside ThanLyin).  Our compound has 40 acres.

3. The Thabarwa Centre is a very peaceful place.  We may not compare it to the Lumbini Garden, where the Buddha was born, but it is equally soothing and quiet.

4. Thabarwa Centre in ThanLyin is a place where people can practice meditation – harmonizing with nature without hurting the beauty of nature.
This is a sasana place where nature and human life with dhamma co-exist and benefit from each other.

5. Thabarwa Sayadaw U Ottamasara made this Centre

We admire his clear mind, skilful managing, sound experience and true compassion put together all into a brilliant reality made possible through his lively practicing.

6. Sayadaw abandoned his worldly achievements to venture out to this effort.

Through his right understanding and practice he was able to convert “ignorance into knowledge”, ”greed into compassion” & ”hatred into abandonment”. Through this unlimited wisdom and action he is empowered to produce unlimited good.

7. More and more people, even youngsters, are getting intrigued by this technique and its application.
Humans in his surrounding are motivated not only to pay homage to him, but even want to join into his accumulation of positive karma and parami.

8. By emphasizing on natural beauty and dhamma of direct knowledge the Sayadaw achieves that the learners understand how to move away from “Atta to Anatta”. Expressing his views in the following words and citations: “------------------------------------------------------“.

9. The power of abandonment can only be compared to the natural force of a Tsunami. We may learn to love the potential of the clearing and teaching power of a Tsunami-wave. To be able to use the positive energy inside a Tsunami wave requires great skills.

We can see no interest in him to becoming famous or a leading figure. In his practice we can not see different dealings towards Buddhists or Non-buddhists, rich or poor, young or old, male or female but we see great compassion applied.
10. As he teaches us, as soon as we abandon attachment, Original Wisdom (paramatta) will appear.

May we progress in attaining this right understanding as the Thabarwa Sayadaw does and go beyond.

11. The shining light of this Thabarwa Centre does his utmost effort to propagate the Legacy of the Buddha by distributing audio & video-multimedia and by supporting with educational material the living beings on our compound with food, cloth and shelter.
